Products/Services Engaged

Skyguide provides air navigation services for Switzerland and adjoining airspace areas in Germany, Austria, France and Italy delegated to its control.

For Swiss airspace, this duty extends to both civil and military air navigation services. The company has guided around 1.2 million civil and military flights a year safely and efficiently through Europe's most complex airspace.

The air navigation service provider (ANSP) is well integrated into the international air navigation services community and strives to enhance Switzerland’s appeal as a place to live, work and do business. The company is majority-owned by the Swiss Confederation and is headquartered in Geneva.

As a world leader in connected aircraft communications services, SITA FOR AIRCRAFT has a longstanding relationship with Skyguide in relation to air traffic management.

Skyguide was among the key European ANSPs who partnered with SITA FOR AIRCRAFT in its deployment of a multi-frequency VHF Data Link Mode 2 network infrastructure (VDLm2 MF), across Europe.

The multi-frequency version of the service was recommended by the European Aviation Safety Agency as essential for facilitating Controller-Pilot Data Link Communication (CPDLC) – an ATC application mandated by the European Commission for use under the SES. The European mandate applies to both airlines and ANSPs, with SITA FOR AIRCRAFT providing the core A/G service enabling them to exchange vital ATC data.

VDLm2 MF is now deployed on both SITA FOR AIRCRAFT’s own infrastructure and that of Skyguide and other ANSP partners, maximizing datalink communications capacity.

In 2017, SITA FOR AIRCRAFT was among the collaborators in Skyguide’s live drone demonstration of U-space capabilities – the first in Europe – and responsible for providing the drone registration database.
