Products/Services Engaged

Boeing products and tailored services include commercial and military aircraft, satellites, advanced information and communication systems and performance-based logistics and training.

In 2015 SITA FOR AIRCRAFT developed the first EASA Supplemental Type Certificate for Inmarsat’s high-speed GX Aviation broadband service, to retrofit Boeing 777 series aircraft.

We have also collaborated with Boeing on its ecoDemonstrator program, with our efforts aimed at accelerating innovation in air traffic control (ATC) communications, alongside other key players including NASA and longstanding airline customer Etihad.

Boeing’s ecoDemonstrator program takes pioneering and promising technologies into the air to support the air transport industry’s evolution by testing solutions to industry challenges for airlines and passengers, as well as enhancing air transport sustainability. The most recent program saw the implementation of such technologies onboard a Boeing 777, with tests totaling 50 different projects.

To support Boeing’s ambition of testing technologies to enhance flight operations and safety, we have worked in collaboration with Honeywell to optimize the transmission of digital information between pilots, ATC and airline operations centers (AOCs) using Internet protocol suites (IPS).

The IPS implementation has the potential to drastically improve ATC communications and end-to-end data exchanges for optimizing routing efficiency and safety. Following the completion of successful trials, the migration from ACARS protocols to IPS could benefit airlines by offering commonality across mainstream communications channels, as well next-generation network compatibility and enhanced security.

Our testing of these capabilities, through Boeing’s ecoDemonstrator initiative, has an important role to play in the ground-to-air connectivity landscape amid increasing pressure on traditional communications protocols.
