Shaping the future of IFC: SITAONAIR at Aircraft Interiors Expo 2019
All of us at SITAONAIR had a fantastic experience at the 2019 Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) in Hamburg (31 March – 2 April), with many successful meetings held with industry partners and colleagues.
AIX is the world’s leading event for the latest innovations, technologies and products associated with cabin interiors and inflight entertainment – attracting 1,000 airline attendees and 16,000+ important aviation decision-makers from across the globe.
On stand 3C10, the SITAONAIR team was showcasing our ‘open cabin’ approach, new and refreshed demo hubs, and how our award-winning inflight connectivity (IFC) solutions are helping airlines around the world to fulfil the promises of the connected aircraft.
We also met with industry colleagues to share our latest collaboration and insight, and to announce major SITAONAIR news, including our recent IFC deals and activity in Asia Pacific.

High-speed IFC for Philippine Airlines and Starlux Airlines
Opening day of the show saw the announcement that SITAONAIR has now deployed Philippine Airlines’ long-haul fleet with high-speed IFC services over GX Aviation. Philippine Airlines President and Chief Operating Officer, Jaime Bautista, said: “We are delighted to have long-term partner SITAONAIR join us on our journey towards achieving the coveted 5-Star Skytrax rating.”
This news was followed on day two with the announcement that new Taiwanese start-up carrier, Starlux Airlines, is gearing up for its commercial launch by announcing a partnership with SITAONAIR to bring next-generation IFC to passengers. Ahead of the news release, the Starlux team dropped by the SITAONAIR stand to meet with CEO David Lavorel and senior figures from Inmarsat to celebrate the deal.
Meeting the press
David Lavorel spoke to journalists about what went on behind the scenes to bring SITAONAIR’s leading IFC solutions to these two exciting, pioneering airlines in Asia Pacific, and how IFC solutions can be adapted to suit regional and route requirements.
Collaborating and celebrating with industry partners
AIX also saw our long-term partners and colleagues reach key milestones of their own. Over at the Inmarsat stand, the team was celebrating news of the 1,000th installation of next-generation broadband solutions across its three new connectivity services, GX Aviation, Jet Connex and European Aviation Network (EAN).
As the world’s most successful Value-Added Reseller of high-speed inflight connectivity (IFC) over Inmarsat’s GX Aviation satellite network, the SITAONAIR team was delighted to share in the celebrations. In his new blog, SITAONAIR VP Customer Programs & Cabin Services explored why 14 leading airlines are now active or set for high-speed GX Aviation. As Yann says: “In a world where ‘always on’ connectivity is essential for people’s live, this is a fantastic achievement.”
Demonstrating SITAONAIR’s leading IFC portals
Back on the stand, the rest of the SITAONAIR team were busy showcasing our inflight connectivity solutions and Internet ONAIR demo to AIX attendees. The demos helped bring to life the benefits that a personalized and interactive Wi-Fi portal can bring to airlines and passengers alike, SITAONAIR’s end-to-end solutions over high-speed broadband, and our transformative open cabin vision.
Interest in SITAONAIR’s IFC solutions was piqued at the start of the week with the release of an article by Yann Cabaret, in which the SITAONAIR VP Customer Programs & Cabin Services discussed how our Chat Plan feature is a great way to give passengers an initial taste of IFC and the future of air travel thanks to tailored access to specific messaging applications.
Meanwhile, at Passenger Technology Solutions
Over at the Passenger Technology Solutions event, held adjacent to AIX as part of the wider Passenger Experience Week, the SITAONAIR team, alongside SITA, took part in panel discussions and events exploring the future of IFC.
Opening day saw SITAONAIR’s Evi Dougali take to the stage with figures from Airbus and Oracle, exploring the future of passenger engagement and the latest developments in passenger tech. Providing interesting food for thought for everyone in the upper hall at Hamburg Messe, a major theme of discussion was the major role mobile automation is likely to play in the cabin by 2025.
Passenger Technology Solutions also hosted PaxTechHack, a two-day hackathon taking place in the middle of the show floor. Each of the 50 participants had 48 hours to come up with unique and game changing solutions to help transform the passenger experience in the connected aircraft age.
Evi Dougali was on hand to mentor participants over the two days, while Sylvain Guilbon, SITAONAIR Head of Customer Program Management, sat on the jury to pick the winners of each category.
Another fantastic year for SITAONAIR at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, with lots of industry interest and great conversations with colleagues and partners. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!
